Walking Together Without Boundaries | One Book, Two Reading Experiences: Traditional and Digital Braille Meet at Shanghai Reading Festival
Overview
Recently, during a cultural reading event organized by the Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions, Shanghai Media Group, and other organizations, a special reading demonstration attracted attention from attendees.
At the event, Mr. Hu Huajian, a user of Wiltrue’s Braille display, participated in a shared reading session with a paper Braille reader, jointly presenting the poem “If I Had Never Seen the Sun.”
A Meeting Between Traditional and Digital Braille
Mr. Hu began using WilTrue’s Braille display — the Wiltrue Future 30-Cell Portable Braille Display — in March this year.
In his daily life, he connects the device with screen reading features such as VoiceOver and uses it for activities including:
- Reading novels;
- Learning English;
- Studying educational materials such as New Concept English.
For Mr. Hu, the Braille display is more than just a device. It serves as an important bridge connecting digital information with tactile reading, allowing digital content such as e-books and learning materials to be presented in Braille.
At the event, two different reading methods came together:
On one side, traditional Braille books conveyed text through raised dots on paper.
On the other side, the Braille display presented digital content through dynamically changing electronic Braille cells.
These two forms of reading met in the same space, demonstrating new possibilities for integrating traditional Braille with digital technology.
Technology Exploration and Future Possibilities
For many years, paper Braille has helped people with visual impairments access knowledge and explore the world of reading.
However, limitations such as production costs, portability, and availability of Braille content mean that new solutions are still needed to meet the reading needs of the digital era.
Wiltrue continues exploring Braille digitalization technologies, aiming to enable more digital content to be experienced through tactile interaction.
Through electronic Braille devices, Wiltrue hopes to provide visually impaired users with richer and more diverse reading experiences, creating more possibilities for Braille reading in the future.

近日，在由上海市总工会、上海广播电视台等单位开展的文化阅读活动中，一场特别的阅读展示吸引了现场关注。
活动现场，无界启航用户胡华健老师携带 无界方寸30方盲文点显器参与阅读展示，与纸质盲文朗读者共同朗诵《假如我没有见过太阳》。
传统与数字盲文的一次相遇
胡老师于今年3月开始使用无界启航盲文点显器。
在日常生活中，他会通过 旁白（VoiceOver） 等屏幕朗读功能连接设备，用于小说阅读、英语学习以及其他学习资料获取，其中包括《新概念英语》等内容。
对于胡老师而言，盲文点显器不仅是一台设备，更成为连接数字信息与触觉阅读的重要桥梁。
通过电子盲文设备，电子书籍、学习资料等数字内容能够转换为动态盲文，让视障用户可以通过触觉方式获取数字信息。
活动现场，两种阅读方式在同一空间中交汇：
一边，传统盲文书籍通过纸张表面的凸起点位传递文字信息；
另一边，盲文点显器通过不断变化的电子盲文点阵呈现数字内容。
传统盲文与数字盲文的结合，展现了技术发展背景下盲文阅读的新可能。
技术探索与未来展望
长期以来，纸质盲文帮助视障群体打开阅读世界，让许多人能够通过触觉获取知识。
然而，受限于制作成本、携带方式以及内容资源等因素，传统盲文阅读方式仍难以完全满足数字时代不断增长的信息获取需求。
无界启航持续探索盲文数字化技术，希望通过电子盲文设备，让更多数字内容能够以触觉形式被感知。
